Day 11, 10 and 9

Day 11 on the way to 40! Today was a fun one. My grade 6 year was with Mrs.Murphy and it was a 5/6 split. This was the year I really got to know Brian Dell as a friend. One class presentation I remember was on video games. I got to bring my Intellivision to school and show how video games improves your hand-eye coordination. So today I played some old school video games online. Thanks to everyone who's commented and who's playing along with me remembering the old days. Tomorrow is grade 7 and then after that high school! Cheers!

Day 10! Grade five was Mr.Helm and there was job action with a three day work stoppage. It was a glorious time of bike riding and hanging out with friends. Spelling was very important as it had it's own subject line on my report card. I was not a strong spiller and yet I've turned out ok and one of my jobs is to check spelling now! Today's celebration is to organize and tidy the garage, back yard and deck! Cheers!!

I remember my teacher from grade 3 and 4 was Mrs.Derkatch and she would always talk French to get us to be quiet and sit down. She also had two great memories for me. We deep fried doughnuts one class and she took us to the public library! So today's remembrance was easy. Took the kids to library for Storytime with a stop at Tim Horton's on the way home! Cheers!

I've managed to keep up with the facebook posts and will continue to update this blog as well.

Days 7 and 8

I got the post onto Facebook last night but missed putting it up here. So here are my thoughts from the last two days.

Day 8 on the way to 40 years is tough sluggin'. I've gone to the school days memories books to find something to connect to. I see that I made a new friend that year. Am Johal. I was in swimming and cubs. I wanted to be a ball player. Which is strange because I never played organized baseball. Just in gym class. My report card showed I was strongest in reading.(and a lot of Satisfactorys after that lone G.) So tonight I'll remember by reading a book. I'm really enjoying this countdown, it's sometimes difficult to think of something, but I'm enjoying the process. Cheers,

Day 7 was spent teaching Amy and Jeffrey Chess this morning. When I was 7 and in gr. 2 my teacher Mrs. Brobroski taught our class how to play. I doubt it was in the curriculum but I'm thankful to her for helping me enjoy this great game! My other memory from her class was falling into a chair and putting a top front tooth through my lower lip. No way I want to relive that. Cheers!

Day 6 - Grade One

Day 6 on the way to 40 is remembering Grade 1. This was the year I was introduced to the best two words a school kid can hear. 'Field Trip' . This paved the way for my new favorite words: 'Road Trip'. So today we put the kids in the bus(minivan) and drove to the EnergyPlex in Kelowna. Another great day!

No. 5

In my fifth year I started my formal education. So I am considering learning something new today. Although, seeing as how it marked my beginning of school, maybe I should find a standardized test to write and give myself a grade. Given the two choices I think I'll go with learning something new. Steph showed me how to use the new washer and dryer today so I guess that could count. However, I wonder what kind of responses I'll get to admitting I didn't know how already. It wasn't too bad so maybe I'll try something else instead. Cheers!

Number 4

Just so I don't always post about sunshine and roses I am going to remember that in my fourth year I had my tonsils out. I distinctly remember waking up and seeing Ronald McDonald. My parents had bought me some new slippers with Ronald McDonald heads on the end of them and that was my  first sight. Now you are probably thinking I will remember this event by going to McDonalds. After the eggs yesterday I am liking the food theme. So I will stay with it and have some ice cream to recreate my post-tonsils meals!

Day 3 and Year three

Well I am up to 1976/77 and I remember that I went to a pre-school that had a chicken coop. We got to collect eggs sometimes, so my remembrance celebration today will be to eat some eggs. It's hard to think up stuff to do for the early years. I am looking forward to remembering my first trip to Vegas!

Day 2

Day 2 of the countdown to 40! I'll remember my second year as the year my lovely sister was born and give her a call to gloat how much better the weather is here in Vernon than Coldgary!!

* I found that my settings were not allowing anybody to post, I've hopefully changed them correctly! Cheers,

Day One

Doing the math I figure I am right now 40 days away from my 40th Birthday. I thought I would do something to reflect/review/laugh about my first forty.

I've had lots of ideas:

Get people to send in stories and make a book about it.

Forty days of fitness.

Contact 40 people who made a difference/impact on my life.

Do something every day to represent every year of my life.  For example, on Day 16 go for a drive because I got my driver's license at 16. I could go for dinner with my wife on day 30 as that is the year I got married.

I'm looking for more ideas so please share if you've got some.
